I might pick up a '97 Blaster tonight if we can agree on the price, and I was wondering if many of you guys pre mix or leave the autolube intact. I'm used to running the Amsoil 2000 @ 50:1 in my dirtbike and probably will do the same with the Blaster.

wow 50/1 thats some thick gas. Go with pre mix on the blaster it will save you in the long run. I dont trust the oil injection

Better safe than sorry. My brother's Blaster just burned a hole in the piston...more than likely due to the injector quitting. You have no warning. As far as the mixture, you might want to check with Yamaha but I think if you mix the oil and gas yourself it should be 32:1. 50:1 is way too thin, not thick. The higher the number in the ratio, the less oil there is.

Mix it at 32:1, you can get the block off kit in almost every place for under $20. It's pretty to install and a good peice of mind. Plus your bike will run better and tend not to foul out plugs. The Maxima oils run good, At least that's what I run.

I use a sinthetic oil and I put like 12 oz in a 5 gallon container. My yamaha dealer said this is the best way to mix it. The oil injactor is off my blaster cause it injects the same amount or oil when u go slow or fast. I'll tell u what kind of oil I use when I buy more. It smell good when u run it. I use preminum gas too.

MVD, if a hole was burned through the piston the cause was most likely too lean of jetting rather than the injector failing.

My oil injector failed on my 2000 Blaster. Of course this happened after the warranty expired. I premix now 32:1 Maxima Castor 927. So far i've had great results. It cost me about $15 to block off the oil injector.

Volsblaster: How do you know the injector quit? It could sieze for many reasons. I'd like to hear your story.
It's worked fine on my quad for 4700 miles now. The first quad ever to finish the Paris to Dakar rally was an autolube Blaster. Its a perfectly reliable system. The only way to break it is by abuse. I love the system, no problems here. Volsblaster is only the second person I've ever heard to claim their injector failed causing a siezed motor.

The autolube doesn't have a history of failing but....I'd rather have my motor seize because of me, not because a platic gear wore down.As far as oil, My girlfriend's father is a boat mechanic for yamaha and he alos own's an 88 blaster. He swears by yamalube two stroke oil and now i'm a believer now too since we have identicle bikes and he is still on the stock bore and i'm 1.5 mm over. oh yeah mix it at around 40:1

You can block off autolube for free, by removing the little gear and reinstalling everything else. I would rather premix my own stuff, although the system is reliable, hoses can get kinked, broken, or oil tanks get punctured (as mine did) and you can ruin a good little blaster quick. I have mixed 12.8 oz with 3 gallons (that's 32:1) using Bel-Ray H1R synthetic with absolutely ZERO problems in everything from CR250's to blasters to Banshees to quadracers and a lot in between. I personally wouldn't go any higher on the ratio, unless you are positive your jetting is spot-on.
