Default Exhaust for my 2005 Arctic Cat 500

Was wondering if there is an aftermarket muffler for my atv. I just previously bought this atv and the muffler is not in too good of shape. It was stock on there before and was just wondering if there is anyone that makes a muffler or a slip on that i could put on here. Myabe i am not lookin in the right spot but i am having a heck of a time finding somethin. So if any of you can help me out, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Ok...not meaning to sound like a smartypants here, but did you actually look anywhere?

This site alone has dozens if not hundreds of that same question, that would readily be answered if you just read a few strings.

Plus, I googled "exhaust system 2005 Arctic Cat 500" and got about 35k hits

Now, to respond...HMF makes a great slip-on pipe for your bike, as do about 15 other companies. If you are going to add an aftermarket pipe, you should also add a performance filter and a larger jet to get the most out of your ATV. Look around the site and you'll see lots of details on how to do it

Yes slip on mufflers are made for the 500. There are MANY styles sizes etc to choose from. But, if you are looking for a reasonable priced you will need to look hard.

There are several posts here that others who know more about them than I do have posted. IF you do a search here you should find them.

I can tell you that I tried to fit a lawn tractor muffler to my AC and did not have very good luck. (muffler was like $50) It worked but since changing the muffler changed the flow of air in the engine I had to change the jets inthe carb and it took a bit to work it all out. I use it for about 2 weeks and my fuel economy was horrible! As well as the sound level wen WAY up. (beyond what was acceptable to me) I was lucky to go 50miles on one tank! So I bent over and went with another stock muffler and returned the jetting to stock and I am much happier.

Hope this helps

I've been wondering how that muffler setup worked out for you Swampy...shame it didn't work, that would have been cool to be able to save some $$ on exhausts

Well, it kind of worked. I was just not happy with it. Too loud and really bad fuel economy. Mainly it was the noise level. A riding buddy has a supertrap muffler (or something like that) and I was two times as loud as he was. Bad enough that my daughter would wear ear plugs in her helmet!

The extra noise spooks critters I want to get close to and annoys others and I really did not gain enough of anything to keep it.

I still wish I could find a stainless steel muffler for the same price as stock. Then they would stop rusting out on me as much.

Swamps...where are you riding that is causing you to rust through mufflers to where it's such a problem...ocean surf or toxic dumpsite?
