Default Battery?

So I was riding yesterday and I started smelling something real bad. I took the seat off and the top of the battery was forced open with air coming out of it. Anybody know why it would do that? The battery was new.

1st step would be take the batt back to where you bought it ASAP!

Either the battery is just faulty or an overcharging regulator can cause something like this to happen also when a battery overheats.

I just checked the regulator and it showed about 500 on the pins that gave readings with 491 the lowest. I was watching a video an one of the pins he said was faulty on his didn't give a reading on mine at all.

Pins? What was dc voltage at the battery while engine was at an idle? I've found some as high as 17-18 volts when they should have been charging 14-14.5 volts max..

That's the problem on the battery bubbling and over heating.. Usually the regulator when this happens, but if you have the manual not a bad idea on checking the stator specs out also just in case.

Make sure you clean that area real good as any acid from the battery will linger and cause corrosion. After a thorough washing spray it down good with something like WD-40 to stop any corrosion from happening. Man that sucks with a new battery.......

Baking soda and water will neutralize the acid when you clean up the area.
