Redcat vx-80 Carb problem
#31
Good news!!!!! put the carb back on and now it runs for a little (no starting fluid needed. However it shuts down after a couple minutes and will not idle. What I have noticed is that the main jet needle keeps gumming up with this yellow film. Once I clean it and put it all back together, it will run again for a little and the same thing happens. What could be gumming the needle up? I have emptied the tank and put new gas in....

Your getting there!!
Those 2 "screws" in the bowl need to be removed and cleaned... and carb cleaner sprayed thru the holes in the carb..also the screw (its a jet) in the back also screws into a jet holder...That needs to be removed and cleaned... it has holes in the side of it that you must be able to see light thru..
Do you have a fuel filter on the quad? if not get one or get a new one.. that is how more junk gets in the carb...

Well it looks to be something with the main jet needle. It keeps getting stuck...... I take the carb off and take the top cap off and remove the diaphram. The needle slides through a little hole in the slide (attached to the diaphram). Once I free up the needle and put it back together. The atv starts and runs for about a minute or so and then dies. I can't rev the engine or it cuts out. I have cleaned everything several times. Should I just get a new carb?

The needle is supposed to stick out the bottom of the slide and be held in position by a small clip and a plate in the bottom of the slide...The needle isnt supposed to stick in the main jet and slide in and out of the slide..
Is that whats happening? or am i confused?

No, then it is working correctly. Not sure why taking it apart and putting it back together makes it work for a very short period...... I thought that the needle needed to slide through the pin hole freely.
