05 Hammerhead twister, need parts..
#1
Hello all,
I have an 05 Hammerhead Twister, last year reverse started to get flaky and after starting up for the first time in months I see reverse is done. Need a new reverse gearbox, I hear there are new ones, built stronger any idea how to get one ???
Also, The E-Brake has never worked, should brought it back, my bad. Any ideas on that ?
Last issue (I hope) is that while the key is off there is a bad drain on the battery. What would you check first ? ( I know, start disconnecting everything until there is no draw, but Id like an educated guess to start)...
reverse gearbox
E-Brake
drain on the battery
Thanks !

For the parts I would suggest visiting the forums at:
BuggyNews Buggy Forum • Index page
That is a very active group dedicated to buggies. There are a lot of hammerhead owners there, and several of the regulars are also parts vendors. If the reverse gearbox is available they would have it, or know where to get it.
Don't know about the E-brake. I don't even know what it is. Is this like a parking brake?
For the current drain, I would suspect the voltage regulator first. A regulator that is shorted input to output will discharge the battery through the stator charge windings. The best way to measure current drain is to use a meter set to measure current on the 10 amp scale (you also have to move the red probe to the 10 amp special jack). Remove the fuse and insert the meter across the fuse holder prongs. Now you have an instant direct readout of current (measured in amps) flowing in or out of the battery.
The reason the voltage regulator is suspected first is that a significant current drain (many amps) also implies a lot of power is being dissapated. You would know without having to ask what is dissapting all that power because it would being doing something. Lighting up, making noise, spinning, or emitting smoke and flames. No lights, sound,or action says the thing absorbing all that power must be big and buried (where you can't feel it getting warm). That would be the stator, and the only way for the current to get there is through a shorted (bad) voltage regulator.
