I've read this several times, and I still have no idea what you are asking...

What is a "charging pulley"?

What is a "2stroke off strimmer with pick up"?

I'm totally confused about wanting 10 degrees before TDC timing marks... Don't you have marks on the flywheel and stator? Why are you having to guess...

I'm totally at a loss here...

Pictures would help.

sorry to be vague, havn't sussed how to do pictures,
flywheel and stator gone with wiring, binned. have fitted magnetic flywheel and pickup off 2stroke strimmer guessed timing off pulley to pickup and got running well, pulley buggered up so got another pulley and want to cut keyway and need to no timing angle

nice and simple all ignition parts on engine binned unserviceable, replaced with ignition items off 2 stroke strimmer, i know enough about engines to give it a go and boy its works, just need to know when the spark needs to be delivered just after tdc, at tdc or a couple of degrees before?

I had to do a Google search for "strimmer". I've had never heard that word before. What you call a strimmer I would call a weed wacker...

You can always find TDC on then engine by probing the piston through the spark plug hole. Then space off 10 degrees from there with a protractor mounted to the crankshaft. But positioning the flywheel onto the crankshaft is another story. You need to know when the trigger pickup voltage reaches the trigger threshold in the CDI (or trigger threshold in whatever ignition system you now have). That you can't tell by looking unless you have mechanical points (which I doubt).

Can you modify the stator to make the trigger pickup coil position adjustable? That way you could fine tune it after getting the keyway approximately right.

But I don't think this is going to work anyway. It is not just a matter of getting the ignition timing at idle correct -the timing advance curve over the full RPM range has to be right too. The advance curve for a two stroke is vastly different then for a four stroke. I wouldn't expect your mockup to work very well at all....

thanks for the reply, sorry for the missunderstanding over 'strimmer' didn't realise they were called any different, 10° was about what i was thinking i wanted someone to confirm my thought, when i attempted first fit it ran surprising well at highish rpm but didn't want to take to high with no load. many thanks for your reply.

I was thinking about a somewhat similar thread a while back... Someone was trying to adapt a 4 stroke generic 5 pin CDI to run a two stroke 90cc engine. We were all gung ho at the beginning, but in the end it proved fruitless. You may find this interesting:

http://forums.atvconnection.com/chin...bogs-down.html

There is some more background info here (all this exchange happened before Jacob made a new thread in the link above...):

http://forums.atvconnection.com/chin...-90cc-atv.html

Also note in the above links (somewhere) that I measured my 150cc 4 stroke quad timing at 3 degrees before TDC (idle) to 14 degrees before TDC (at 4000 RPM). Since I found that the internal circuitry for my CDI and the generic 110cc quads CDI circuitry to be identical (other than the connectors) I expect your Kazuma timing requirements to be the same....
