A comment on the gel.. I have never seen a gel pack but know of a few who have.. 3 yrs ago I was in a atv factory in china(2 mos).. they made pit bikes and small quads. most used a 110 or 125 cc engine.. all of them were started and run before they were shipped.. no gel related problems there..

I got that plug off, a small drill bit did the trick and there is another screw there that seems to adjust a hole right insde the intake, so now I should be able to play with the a/f mixture and get it running properly
thanks for your help!

I still havent been able to get this thing running right..
I figured the next step would be adjusting the needle valve. I think it is lean based on everyone's discription of how they run when they are too lean, but I pulled the plug after running it hard, and it isnt white.. the top part is really clean, and the base is black.. here is a pic

what do you think? does that look like my mixture is off?
or should I look for my problem elsewhere?

thanks again

yeah I got mine running right.. it turns out is a lean issue.

I ended up replacing the carb with a bigger one but it was noisy and fast and my son didnt like it, so I put the stock carb back on there and drilled out the jets since no one has replacements

there is a good thread here that details the process

cool thanks for the link that was a great read
i just threw a new pz20 carb on my 125 taotao today
.and she fired right up and ran great .
no bog . i also added the racing cdi today too
still a bit slugish on the get go .
i don't get much response from the fuel mixture screw
i have it set around 2 turns. plug looks clean and white on the center
insulator
should i be turning mixture screw in a half turn shouldn't it be a bit grayish or brown .

anyways thanks for that link .

how are you adjusting the mixture screw? To adjust you need to turn teh air screw till it is running at roughly 1800rpm a fast idle. Then turn the mixture screw out until the rpm evens out and no longer climbs. then turn it in counting the turns. then do it again and see if you end up in roughly the same place.. Usually when you turn in you only do it until the rpm will not drop any more but eather way works. Then you can adjust your air mixture back down to a good idle. I did this on mine and it ran great until i lost spark for some reason.
