110cc chinese atv
Hi,
I'm new to the forum. Just bought my son a 110 cc chinese atv. Worked fine for a few hours then just died while he was riding it. Now it won't start. When you try to start it, it just clicks to the selonoid(sp?). The starter is not getting any juice. We tried jumping the starter from the selonoid and still nothing. Any suggestions? My son is heartbroken, and the place we bought it from is not open on weekends. Thanks for any help.

Got a meter? Measure the battery voltage right on the battery terminals while trying to start the quad (i.e. the solenoid is clicked). You should measure above 11.5 volts. If it is low there then your battery is most likely bad or discharged. Maybe your quad's charging system never worked from the get go.
If you read above 11.5 volts (while the solenoid is clicked) then move the meter leads down to the starter motor. Red lead goes to the starter input post, black lead on the starter motor metal case. Measure the voltage again (with solenoid clicked in). What do you measure?
If you don't have a meter try using a pair of jumper cables to jump your quad battery to your car battery. Does the starter turn now?

Ok, yes we have a meter. The voltage was above the 11.5. We found that the solenoid is getting power to the starter, but the starter is not working. So now we will probably have to replace it. Is it common for these to go after not much use? I mean we just got it Thursday, he used it for a couple of hours and it died.
