Default engines power fades

i just bought my grandson a 50cc quad after sever trips round the block about a mile i reckon the power fades and i have to push it home
the engine is running but wont pull it along ???? the clutch isnt slipping it just loses power doesnt smoke excessively

any help please

First thing I'd do is a compression check.If it's a two stroke could be that as it get hots the rings loose seal against the cylinder walls.Probably the cause if when it cools down it's able to crank and run again until it gets hot. 4 stroke can do the same thing,but I'd check valve clearance also. Valves set too close can tighten as it warms up causing power loss. If you rule out the engine as a problem,then I'd check into the clutches and belt.

Before going into engine problems, check that the fuel tank breather isn't blocked. If it is the vacuum in the tank builds up and cuts the fuel supply to the carb down. Next check the colour of the plug nose, if it is black and sooty the choke may be partially on all the time and, whilst a cold engine likes this, a hot one doesn't. Treat it to a new plug while you are doing this, as faulty plugs can give these symptoms.
