Redcat MXP70 - Clutch
#1
Hello All,
Forgive my ignorance up front.
I had several issue with a Redcat MPX 70 (automatic) that I purchased. Seems after replacing the carburetor, the vast majority of my issues, like not starting, hard to start, idle screw when turned in our out had no effect, and on and on. So I replaced the carb and those issues are gone.
The new issue I may be experiencing is related to power, it just bogs down when going up inclines. So my post is two items:
1) Clutch - I though maybe its clutch related. So I watched numerous videos. Each said to loosen the nut counter clockwise, tighten the center screw clockwise until the least little resistance is felt, then turn the center screw 1/8 turn back counter clockwise and tighten the nut while holding the screw with a screw driver. However I am able to loosen the nut but the center screw just turns forever either direction. Is this an issue? thoughts/recommendations?......the ATV does roll and it does go fast on a flat straight. Just up hill, it loses power
2) Bogging going up hill - As stated, I have installed a new carb. Any thoughts as to why it would bogg/lose power going up inclines
Thanks for any assistance anyone can offer

you put a new carb on it have you adjusted it for your altitude? Ive been working through my own quad and replaced the carb to rule out other issues and when i finally got everything working i started getting a similar issue. carbs need a little fine tuning for altitude. or you can go through an ocd cleaning of your old carb and try putting it back on.

That seems like a slipping clutch. On some little autos, that "adjusting screw" is just a blanking screw. Only way is to take the clutch cover off and find out. If the centrifugal shoes are worn down to the metal, that is your problem found, but regarding the rest of the transmission, there could be something about it in that Haynes manual for small Chinese bike engines, but information about how that fully auto transmission works, seems lacking on the internet.

Ive gone through 4 carbs, PZ19. Replaced the the entire wire harness, stator, CDI, etc
taken it to a specialized shop for Chinese engines and they could never get the carburetor correct. So I really dont believe it is a carb issue. Ive also rebuilt the head and reseated/relaped the valves. Performed a leak Down test (no leaks) and a compression test (148psi)
I am beginning to believe, post below, it is a slipping clutch and needs a clutch replacement
