Sportsman speedometer help
#1
My speedometer quit working this weekend and I was reading my service manual and it said to use their tester to decide if the wheel sensor is bad. I'm not going to buy one so I tried my volt meter with a battery hooked to the sensor wires but must not had it right. Has anyone figured out how to test the sensor with a meter or something ?

Quikest way to tell if it is the sensor is to borrow a friends all that is required is to take the right front wheel off and a 3/8" socket to remove it and plug it into your speedo. Or even easier just hook your speedometer up on his quad and see. If the odometer is showing power then it is usually the hall effect or speed sensor as it is lovingly known. Oh yeah if you replace it remove the silver cap from the old one and put it on the new one.
Hope this helps. Sportsmans seem to be hard on these for some reason. Very few speedometers have I replaced but a lot of sensors.

not sure if u have a newer bike with an electronic speedo or not, but if its the old style, mine had quit working on my 98, after some looking around i found the cable had just came loose on the bottom side of the speedo, just threaded it back on and bingo no more problem. it must have shaken off. no big deal
