on my new 2003 450 s fourman my front fender flairs- the black pieces- hang lower than the footpegs . every time i go over a rock or a tree those flairs grab it and bend like heck. im afraid their going to break . does anybody else have this problem ? one other thing who sells the front locker for my 450 i have the selectable 2wd/4wd but i want both tires spinning on the front . if anybody has one on their machine tell me how good you like it . thanks

 

Yeah, I have the same problem with mine anything I go over that comes close to my skid plate the fenders look like they're gonna rip off, but so far they haven't. I was thinkin about trim'n those back a bit.

I think you can find the locker at Dirty Howies I have not bought them yet but I think that is just what I need. Let me know if get them and if you like them.

 

Mine do the same thing every time I go over a log, etc. I was thinking about trimming them back, as lippysmac said, but I don't want to lose the splash protection either. With the age of my machine, it seems the plastic doesn't get too brittle with age so they should be okay. The noise it makes is the worst effect so far, I cringe every time I hear it. I've got footguards on mine, so the plastic doesn't have far to bend before it is stopped. Let us know what you decide to do.

 

I wouldn't worry about the fenders, I have a '98 with no adverse affects and I've jammed them up pretty good. They are really pretty durable. Beats getting soaked too!!!

On www.highlifter.com, you can get 2 lockers for your bike. A permanent spool style locker for $35 US, or an automatic detroit locker for about $350 US.

The latter is a better unit (hence the price), it unlocks for easy steering but locks up solid for true 4 wheel traction.

I bought the first one because I'm in canada and that unit is really expensive by the time it gets here. I find it great. Makes steering much stiffer on hardpack and pavement when maneurerving in 2wd or 4wd (I have a warn 424 - same as your traxlock), not much different at speed or on loose surfaces. The traction of true 4wd all the time is fantastic. I have really given it a good work out and I will never go back to 3wd again.

 

I don't think the fenders should go any lower than the frame. I've considered trimming the fenders on my Foreman but I guess it doesn't happen enough to really bother me. When going over trees, I just try to pop the front end up and over to avoid scraping. It was a lot easier to do with my 400 lb Recon.

 

hhhmm. I ride like crazy. Haven't had any problem with mine yet. I do hit and run over all kinds of rocks, tree roots, stumps, etc. Still all straight and attached... Good Luck

 

I finally got fed up with the fenders hanging up on everything I rode over, and it's getting pretty cold up here, plastic gets brittle when it's cold. I trimmed them back so they hang maybe half an inch below the footguards. We'll see what happens next time I'm going through water or over logs, etc.

 

Hilifter.com sells a gearless diff lock. It is supposed to be almost no extra steering effort needed with all 4 locked up. That is the next mod I plan to buy for my bike.

 

don't worry about the flaps. they're only about 9$ apiece last time I checked.
