Default To squeal or not to squeal?

Finally got to put a couple hours on the trail, a whole 10 miles. (atleast I finaly made some time) When I pulled the bike off the trailer at home the next day, I felt a lag in take off. I hadn’t noticed this before, so I checked my deflection. It was at least 1.25 inches. Pulled the clutch apart, had a 1mm, and a .8mm. Best I could tell, I needed to remove .6mm or so. Well, now I have a squeal at idle in gear. All though, I must say, the take off is now outstanding.

So, should I try it for a while, or order up some shims... One other thing I noticed after this procedure is the shifter linkage now requires some adjustment. I am going to assume the drag on the belt, is creating tension requiring a little more movement to the shifter to put it in neutral.

As far as my ride went, it was a great day. Need more time to decide on the need for tire adjustments? I did feel as if the bike pulled to the left while riding, found my self-pulling to the right continuously. Note, check tire pressure, make sure it is correct .

Way to much fun..

That squeal is a good thing.

A slight squeel is almost perfect and most definately acceptable. As long as it's a slight squeel, not consistant, goes away when put in neutral and doesn't creep when at idle in low. If it creeps at all or even feels like it wants to creep then you need to add a small shim as the belt is to tight and you are smoking the belt and most likely grooving the clutch pulleys.

Happy trails,
Rich.
