How can you tell if you need a new belt?
#1
Mine has 100 miles on it,It's slipped 3 or 4 times and I'm taking it in for the first service and I'm having the black spring installed. How can you tell by looking if I need a new belt,The dealer will be able to snow me because I don't have a clue. Thanks for any advice.

You really can't tell if it has been burnt or not sometimes. The actual surface of the belt will become glazed and or hardened and will lose it's abilities to drive the pulleys without slipping. Your best bet is to just suck it up and replace the belt while they install the black secondary spring. They should also remove the thinner shim out of the secondary pulley ( the .8mm shim) since they also need to take the pulley apart to install the spring. Removing the shim will put your belt on the tight side of the belt deflection spec. This may cause your belt to squeek slightly while idleing in gear. This isn't a bad thing as long as the ATV doesn't try to creep in gear. Just make sure that you take the tranny out of gear and put it in neutral if your going to let your bike idle for extended periods of time. Chances are your belt is on the way out if it has already slipped a few times. If you don't replace it now while your doing this you will most likely end up being dissapointed with the service and it would only be your fault.
