Default BF CVT Problems or not? You tell me.......

I don't know if this is normal or not, so I need you guys to tell me if your brutes do this. When I am going downhill, under light throttle, the KEBC seems to be confused, makes a clunking noise back and forth as it can't seem to decide whether to engage or not. Also, climbing steep hills under throttle, I hear a rapid clicking type noise coming from the CVT. These noises are irritating, and I don't know if over time anything is getting damaged. Again, on engine braking, if I go over a bump and the rear tires momentarily break traction, I will get a brief belt "squall" as it slips on the pulleys. I can't believe that this transmission should act so unrefined, as I suppose it is the same one as used on the P650 & P700. Under hard downhill braking, it seems to act OK...the problems are only under partial throttle/light decelleration. What could be causing this? Do any of you guys' Brutes do this? So far, I am a little disappointed with this transmission. Are these all symptoms of a problem that is simple to resolve? You guys that are familiar with this CVT, please give me some insight on what to do; I'd like to see what the real potential of this tranny is. Thanks.

Sounds like your belt may be loose, as I think my belt may be a little bit loose as well.
My BF will squawk loud right in the CVT now & then if I get on the brakes in a panic fast stop but the squawking sound goes away after the initial grab-on braking, does it in both 2 & 4wd.
Everything else works perfect, this BF of mine so far has the best engine braking of any of my 2 Prairie 650s or my Sold Cat 650.

Do you think I just need to set the belt deflection? The machine has only 400 mi. on it, and according to the manual, this is only supposed to be done at 1100 mi. Do you think this may be a warranty issue?

My Brute does not do this (clunking noises) that I’ve noticed. Also I have yet to hear a squeal from the belt. What I do hear frequently is what sounds like a servo turning on and off (it’s an electronic whining / buzzing sound, not very loud but noticeable). I haven’t really tried to isolate it or pin down when exactly it does this because I haven’t noticed any ill effects from it, and I figured it was normal (I believe I’ve heard of others reporting this noise as well)...

No problems here and I ride it way hard. The engine brake works good. I can hear it switch from on to off as well, but it is just a small noise. I have had the braking (Squak) like the other guy, but that is normal. Sounds like an issue to check out though, in your belt noise.

The Squawking sound I am refering to is not normal. This is my 4th Kawasaki with this CVT, 2 P650s & 1 Cat 650 & now the BF750. With all of my experince with this Belt noise, then to me it is a indication of a too loose belt. Now with that being said, I still took my BF750 to Colorado in Late August for a 8 day trail ATVenture vacation & I never heard it do it once on the entire trip. The Engine braking is excellent, at times I think it may work too good.
I haven't had the time to pull the CVT cover & check the deflection. Until the noise is more common thing, I am in no hurry to make an belt adjustment.
Some dealers will do a belt adjustment under warranty. If you state your engine braking is poor, then the dealer may do the belt adjustment under warranty. I have said this before on my other P650s & both Dealers did the adjustment under warranty. So at least it is something you can try. You may want to ask up front if the warranty will cover the belt adjustment.

Just an update on this....I took my cover off and discovered that my belt deflection was almost 1/2" too much; I am sure this is what is causing my problems. I think maybe this may be covered under warranty, but the mechanics at these dealers are mostly incompetent a--wipes in my opinion. I wouldn't let the last one that touched my bike work on a red wagon as far as I'm concerned. I have decided to invest in some of the "special tools" involved in the CVT disassembly, and do the job right, myself. The driven pulley needs to come apart in order to remove some shims to tighten up the belt. For those of you who have performed this job yourselves...is there a way to properly accomplish this task without buying the tools they list? Just curious how you guys may do it. Maybe Nyroc knows the answer to this. Anyway, I am anxious to see how the machine acts with a tight belt. I'll let you know. Tell me if I really need to buy those tools!!!
