Riding gloves, Which is the best?
#1
This is a little off topic for ATV's although it would be nice to see what everyone's preferrence would be.
What would be deciding factors that would determine your purchase? Christmas is coming my younge fellow is becoming a good rider what would be a good glove for myself and him. He is 12 and I am well, to old but might become an agressive rider with the right pair of gloves, lol.

Ive got a pair of "Fox" gloves. Got them for Xmas a few years back, they have hard rubber protection for the back of your hand so branches dont hurt near as bad. They also have thick leather palms incase the unthinkable happens. No good for cold weather though, as they breath too good.

I ran onto a glove rating site about a year ago.....I wound up buying some German cycle gloves (made in Pakistan), brand name Orina, which were the highest rated, but not the most expensive. They are $50~ a pair. Very warm, well made, and just about waterproof. Buy a size larger than they claim will fit you though.
I looked up where I got them: Orina style 118 at Adventure Motorcycle Gear

From what I gather it all comes down to fit plus protection. I found I like them for working on cars as well I can almost pick up a fallen washer that impresses me. Protection is a definite as well most prices here start at 40 climb as high 100 for a pair of gloves. Even 40 seems a little steep for something so thin. I weld for living and these things would not last a day with my job good ole leather works the best there. If the riding gloves last a long time then I can see the price but for junior who will grow of them before he wears them out makes me think twice. Oh well Xmas is down the road.
Do name brands have any influence on type of riding? That is another thought as well. I have seen a few gloves with a wiper on the index finger for getting rid of the runny nose problem of going to fast, lol. It would be terrible to have a long dangly hanging from the nose when a bunch of girls pass you at least my younge fellow told me this so the wipey thing is a must, LOL.

Alltoys - for winter I have a pair of CKX (same company that makes the helmets) snowmobile gloves; they are Thinsulate insulated with an extra liner inside. They have the rubber visor wiper and have extra padding on the back of the fingers and hand; they look like they were made for Snocross. $60-70. They are availible from Kimpex, Motovan, etc, for us Canadians.
I use Thor Motocross in the summer. I see there's a new ATV glove on the market from a company named "FOUR". www.fouratv.com - They have gel packets in the right thumb for thumb throttle usage, looks like a good idea.
