desperate please help sportsman 04.5
#1
Hello
Could someone please help me. I have to use my bike tommorrow to muster all our cows and I have just pulled the front apart to change the cv boot. I have the axel out of the hub, I cut the old boot off but cannot get the cv to come off the axel to slip the new boot over it. I have done a rear one 12 months ago and from memory there was a clip, but I cannot see any clip on this one. The bike is a 400 sportsman 04.5. Could someone tell me how to get the CV to come off so I can get the boot on. I am running out of ideas and have checked the search but couldn't find anything
Thankyou
Scott

I've changed a couple of boots on my scrambler. The axle should just come out. There is a retaining ring that is sprung in there, but you should be able to pop it out. The reatining ring simply stays on the shaft. hope thid helps

you can check www.polarisoemparts.com for a quick check to see the part layout for the shaft. this should show you if there is a clip or not.

Thanks all
I just got in, and finished the job, before I read your posts.
Your right it just pulls out. You have to full fairly hard though. After posting I thought I would have another look, I couldn't see there could be anthing holding it in so I gave it a good pull and I came off.
Thanks for the replys

There is a clip, but it stays inside the joint, it doesn't stay on the shaft. I think you can get the joint off the shaft without holding the clip open, as you did, but I find it easier to hold the clip open. Glad you got it worked out.
