I just bought a new 05 sportsman 700 and i have a questions for you guys. I noticed when letting off the throttle I here a racheting sound from under neath, it sound almost like the front drive shaft has slack in it. This is in the 2wd mode, i haven't had it in the awd mode yet. I can grab the front drive shaft it does have a little bit of play in it and I don't think it's the u joints, it sounds like the play is in the transmission. the back drive shaft has very little play in it. Just wondering is the sound a normal condition or is there something wrong. I apprieciate your help.

 

They all do it....completly normal

 

You are likely hearing the EBS kick in. As stated above, it is normal.

Every 700 I have ever rode had what seemed like a lot of slack in the drive train.

 

Just bought a 05 700 efi 3 weeks ago and it does it too. I don't like it but its normal!!!!

Had mine for 5 days and it does it. I knew about it long before I bought one also. No biggie.
