Just curious.
What price are they asking?
How many miles?
How many hours?
Where are you located?
I looked at a 02 500 HO.
asking $4800
350 miles with a low hours I cant remember exact amount. Used for snow plowing only. Like new shape.
I passed it up and am sorry.
Live in the northwest.
I am thinking about looking around in neighboring states for a better deal. I looked at a 05 500 ho and they wanted 5899 plus tax and lic. I wonder how that compares to other states.

He is asking $3500 for it it has around 250 hours on it and about 600 to 700 miles! ( the speed o doesn't work, sensor bad) It has new 26" 589's on it come with saddlebags and a warn 3.0 winch!! I live in GA. When I looke at it , the air box had some kind of oil in and the owner said it was supposed to be there, is that right?? And the only other thing was that the engine had a "TIC TIC TIC" at idle, is that normal?? Other wise every thing looked ok to me!! Thanks

Sounds like a good deal. The 500's have tho have the valves adjusted and thats what the tic is. With oil in the airbox could alco be because of the valves but I have seen oil in them alot. The speedo could be a $50 sensor or a $300 speedo. Does the 4x4 work. Most likely if the speedo does not work the 4x4 will either not work or work intermittantly.

So just out of curiousity. THe 05 was going for $5500 canadian? That would be about $4600 USD.
Anyone know how it works if someone from the US toes to Canada and buys a atv there? What are the taxes and duties to bring it back to the US?
Kinda a overall view of how this would work? ANyone know?

No
That 500 cost @ 8500.00 to 9000.00 up in Canada.
Polaris never lowered their price to the Canadian dealer when the exchange rate fell from 55% to around 20%
They get their money in Cdn funds I guess, otherwise the price should have went down automatically.
Just log onto Polarises web site , the first thing they want is your Zip or Cdn postal code, (use 55413 or p0t1c0) That way they can determine weather to quote list prices for Canada or the US, or look at the accesories prices, you have to add 50% to the US price to bring it up to the Canadian price even though the exchange rate is only 18 to 22% right now .
So we Canadians can say we're getting F#$ked by Polaris. They expect us to pay 30%more for their products than the guys in the states.
Any bike bought in the US has no warranty in Canada, unless the owner can show the canadian dealer picure ID to prove they are from the area where the bike was sold.
At the difference in price I'd take it with no warranty if I had to, I live close enough to the states that I can take it back to where I bought it if need be. Plus I'm pretty handy in my shop.
Finally the dealer can get in trouble for knowingly selling it out of his territory, I know this guy pretty well and he knows I'm not going to jam him up by screaming for warranty at a dealer in Canada.
I also had to pay $170 at customs for some dumb a** transport canada inspection (RIV (register of imported vehicles) done at Canadian tire stores), even though the quad in identical to the ones sold here, plus my 7% gst at the border, and then provincial sales tax when you go to plate/title it.But i saved 1500+ dollars for my hassel.
So no you can't get a new on for $4600, retail anyway.
I don't know for sure, but farely certain they can go back to the states as well, but don' know the details. We used to trade our used sled back to the US dealers and the hassel was mnimal, but that was 10 years back.
I doubt you will find new or used bike in Canada for less though.
The local dealers want 2500 for some thrashed p o s that barely runs and something like my 96 400 sportsman brings 3500 to 4000 in decent shape
