How long before changing oil due to TIME and not miles/use?
#1
I have 30 hours and about 110 miles on my 2005 450 Kodiak. I changed the oil about a month ago, but might not even ride it for another month. Should I be concerned about oil breaking down over a certain period of time rather than miles or hours of use? If so, how long? I expect to ride probably 20 hours a year at the most.

More than anything else, oil changes due to time are mostly because of moisture accumulating in it. When the machine is rode regularly the small amount of mositure will evaporate from the heat, but if it sits too long too much will accumulate. You also should take into consideration that changing temparatures is another reason to change the oil when it's not completely broken down, for colder weather you want a thinner oil, and in the warmer weather you want a thicker oil in it. But no, oil won't really break down just from sitting, but it can get impurities in it.
