Tire size for 2005 Sportsman
#1
Was wondering what is the biggest tire I can put on my 2005 Sportsman with the sock suspension. Right now I am running the stock Carlisle PXT's (Front 26x8xR12 Back 26x11R12). I want to put the same tires back on but the 6ply version (Carlisle ACT X/LR). I see Carlisle makes a 26" and a 27" ACT X/LR tire. I was wondering if the 27" will fit and if ayone has put this 6 ply tire on ther atv? If so, do you like it?

My buddy just put Mud Bugs on his 05 SP500 HO. 26x12R12 on the rear with no problems & 26x10R12 on the front but needed a $180.00 spacer kit. I am still running the stock tires & we ride the same trails together with one big difference - his wallet is about $650.00 lighter than mine. And actually he is the one who we have to pull out of holes becuase he thinks these tires make him invincible and goes where he shouldn't - last 3 winches couldn't move him and we spent 2 hours getting him out... a couple of inches at a time.
For 27s you will need a lift kit.

i cant say this for all atvs, but i ride with a few guys that have 27's on a 500 and 800, with no problems at all.
27x9x12 front
27x12x12 rear
on stock rims, with a couple machine washers between the wheel to space it out from the tierods.
spacers may be needed for the proper way to do it, but i dont see a problem with 27's, IMO.

I just installed swamp lites on my 2005 sportsman 400 28x12x12 rear 12x9x28 front with no problems I did adjust the rear springs. I got mine from a guy on e- bay that was very helpful in knowing what size wouldn't rub
