There are a variety of weights that can be used depending on the temps. I believe synthetic without moly can be used. I personally use non-synthetic, however, and tend to change it at fairly low mile intervals.
When you change the filter, watch for the metal washer on the spring side of the filter element. They are known to stick to the filter, and it would be easy to throw it away with the old filter.
Don't forget to adjust the valves, and check the lock nuts on the tie rod ends (one of mine came loose on the 1st real ride).
