03 Rancher recoil starter
#1
my 03 rancher has a back up recoil starter, i pulled it once and it wont go back in, (i think i pulled it out too far, i guess i dont know my own strength ) any way, i was wondering if there was a way to fix this? i posted about a kick start conversion but i honestly doubt there is one, is there a way to just take it off and block it off? honestly that recoil starter is crap and is actually easier just to push start it. any advice would he helpful, thanks.

The recoil starter is prone to collecting dirt in it, if you are in the wet and mud a lot. The dirt will eventually wear on the seals and it will leak oil. There are blockoff plates available out there.....

Instead of blocking it off, you can take some hi temp rtv silicone and place at the bottom of the weep hole, on the top of the handle where the knot is tied in the rope, around the spot where the handle sits inside the "cup" of the plate, and take the plate off and place silicone all around it. This should keep all moisture and dirt out. A lot of people I know have done this.

ps, you can't push start a rancher, without moding some electrical on the foot shift and you can't do it on th es. ps the block off plate sucks if you need to do valve clearances. bump start is pretty damn hard to line up, my buddy put his pull start back on after that.
we simply silicon the hell out of the pull starts
