Default clutch alignment

My 05 600 sportsman has slowly been getting harder to shift since I bought it and now it starts to creep a little bit when left in low gear at idle. My idle is at 1150rpm. As I understand it the problem is the belt clutches need shimmed or realigned. I'm pretty handy around the shop, should I try this on my own? Also do I need any special tools to do this?

Check you belt for wear or glazed sections, can cause creeping also. If belt ok or replacing belt doesnt help, then remove rear clutch and should have one large spacer at back of shaft and from one to 4 shims. The object is to try to get belt in center of front clutch so it doesnt ride up on the sheath at idle, which causes creeping. You can try by removing a couple shims, even if only two are there and leave spacer in. IF doesnt help, then you will probably have to add shims until creeping is gone! Manuals say use the alignment tool, but easier to just eyeball! Also check front motor mount for damage and engine movement, can be a problem sometimes also. One way bearing in front clutch should roll smoothly and fiber washer on inside of bearing against sheath should be in good condition and not worn down also. A lot to check for,but hopefully will solve your problem. Idle sounds about right at 1150 rpms.

its idling at the right speed and if the engine mount isnt broke then, most likely as he mentioned the ebs busing or fiber washer is going bad, which will need special tools to take apart. imo.

Well I pulled it apart [pretty easy really] there where 3 shims behind the driven clutch took 2 out and it made it worse. It looked pretty straight with the 3 shims once i looked at it from behind and underneath. It almost looked like the front driver shaft was tilted down a hair. Maby I will get another shim or two and try that route. the motor mounts where all solid and the belt was in very good condition. Oh and the ebs one way bearing was functioning correctly.
