Default sportsman 400 will not shift out of 4wheel LOW

I was using my 400 to pull a light drag (80-90lbs)to make some tails. I was pulling in 4 wheel low. When i was done i tried to shift it into neutral and into high or reverse and it wouldn't. It was stuck in LOW. I tried rocking the atv, applying the brakes,... I was on flat ground and no pressure on the transmission. Any input would help thanks. I don't want this problem on the trails this summer.

I've had the same problem with my 99 Sportsman 500 a few times and I had to disconnect my linkage and shift the bike by hand and then it was alright, real PITA...

so when you rocked it, did it come out? spmetimes the pressure of it being in low makes its hard but maybe it needs to be adjusted

I tryed to rock it. turn it off, got off it.... it took about a good 5 min to shift. How would you shift the linkage by hand?

Once you get the trans unstuck and have in neutral, loosen the locknuts at the small ball end of the shift rods on the shaft and remove shift rods from shifter box. Turn linkage ends out or in until the ends DROPS STRAIGHT into shift arms of shift box. This can help stop the gear locking(hydrolocking) in the future. I have to do this procedure a lot on older machines as the shift box begins to wear and has slack.
