Default How much hp before clutching?

On my 07 sp 500 EFI I've added a slip on pipe from Hot seat performance + K&N intake and by the weekend hopefully (depending on UPS???) I should have a Dobeck fuel optimizer to install. Real world I figure maybe a 4-5 hp. gain over stock. Dobeck's tech says closer to 7-8 hp. Either way, How much of a HP increase would warrant the consideration of a clutch kit? Since the pipe and intake (last week) I've only done some test riding around the house with some hole shots and short sprints up to about 45 mph with no issues regarding the stock clutching.

I'd say go ahead and do the clutch work. With all the add ons, I'd say you're getting 5hp for sure. Might as well make sure you're putting the extra hp on the ground.

I agree. Even on a lot of stock machines you can gain performance with a clutch kit. Better throttle response and belt grip along with acceleration.

Wink

Sounds good to me! I' think I'll wait a little bit on the clutch kit but will most likely be adding one in the future. Can't spend to much at once or I may be sleeping alone on the couch which aint so bad. I really do love my wife most of the time. LOL

Stock clutching is fine, there is a kid on You tube who put a 120 hp Polaris XC700 twin 2stroke sled motor in his Srambler and left the clutching stock. YouTube - SKi-Doo Motor no.1

The clutches and belts on these ATV are as tuff as the one they use on sleds, there underworked if anything.

Good point! I may just wait till I replace the stock rubber with 27" Zilla's this winter. Maybe if I'm a good boy Santa will bring me a clutch kit with the tires? LOL

You will like the added low-end pull from clutching. I have always run EPI kits and have been very happy with them!
