Default new to site, have a problem with atv

I inherited 2 atvs, 1 is a Polaris 250 Trailblazer. 1998 4x2. The problem is, the thing won't rev up. It just wants to bog down. If I put it in forward, and get into the gas, it bogs. If you go nice and steady with the gas, sometimes it will run fine, other times not. Reverse, no problem pretty quick. Sitting in neutral, giving it quick gas, bogs down. I took the air filter off, and shot carb cleaner in it, revs up. New spark plug. Sometimes, sitting in neutral give it quick gas, runs fine. No back fire ever. Atv sat for 2 years with almost full tank of gas. Drained gas. Add fuel injector cleaner, let idle, rev up, and rode atv. Not helping. Cleaned air filter, runs same with and without filter on. Any help would be great thanks.

Welcome to the Forum! Just adding a fuel cleaner usually won't help especially if its been sitting a couple years! Carb jet cleaning and probably replacing the needle and seat(needle valve assembly) is needed. The ethanol gas we have now can will basically turn to a nasty gel in the carb and stop up jets, cause float needle sticking, etc, UNLESS a fuel stabilizer was added,BUT it won't preserve it for two years! Basically a simple job if you have the time and just a little patience.(Just pull the air box and carb, remember where the vent lines go,remove the carb bowl and clean the jets and replace the needle and seat, plus clean the carb slide and needle)There is also a limiter module that can go out that can cause problems and also crank seals if gas saturated can cause problems,BUT clean the carb first and see how it does. Keep us updated and if you still have problems, don't hesitate to ask! Good luck OPT

welcome to the forum. as mentioned you need to pull the carb off and do a good cleaning. the 250 is a simple 2 stroke engine that is a fairly easy engine to work on. were all here to give you helping advice if needed.

Default update on the atv

Hey guys here's the update on the atv. I cleaned the carb, and it's working great. However, now when it is idling and I give it full gas, it wants the bog down. But if I give it half gas, get moving and give it full gas it works fine, revs up. I can fly up the street at full gas no problem. Any idea's? Thanks again.

Did you replace the needle and seat when you cleaned the carb? Sounds like to much fuel, bogging down unless you "lightly" give it throttle, then will take the load.Plus could be float level needs to be adjusted OR air/fuel screw adjusted? About 1 1/2 to 2 turns out on air fuel screw (behind idle adjuster). PLUS the 250 is a low compression "piston port" engine, doesn't have reed valve induction like the 400 Polaris and will always just have a "little" bog usually from idle on full throttle until the engine "catches up" with with fuel flow..Plus the Trail blazer does have a 130 main jet compared to the 145 in a Trail Boss(depending on altitude) and someone may have "richened" it up. Just a few things to check out since you "inherited" the atv..Plus while you are at it,might want to check the belt for excess slack and "blow out" any belt dust from the clutches. OPT

I am going to take the atv's up in the mtns this weekend, see how they do. I don't want to make any changes in lower altitude to the Trailboss. But I think the air/gas mix screw is almost 2 turns out I think as it is. I'll let ya know, thanks again for the advise.
