Default Engine removal 2000 Xplorer

Hey guys. I need to pull the engine out of my Xplorer. Do the front fenders and fuel tank have to come off to do this? Apparent piston breakage , but I want to go thru the bottom end as well. I'm hoping I can wiggle it out the side without having to tear the whole front of the machine apart. Just asking, as the manual says to remove fuel tank.........

Remove the tank as mentioned, plus you can pull flywheel and stator and just leave the stator tied back out of the way rather than having to disconnect all the wires, then just "walk' the engine out from the left side. You're going to have to remove them any way.Always a lot easier for me,since I always looked for the "easy" way out of things. Took everybody's advise and it worked well taking the fenders and tank off. Only things original on my 400 now are my counterbalance and case halves. Had a broken piston and a very worn bore (.023 clearance. Really). Bought this thing (well used it turns out) this past spring. Mr Ritter did my cylinder (+.040) and built me a crank. I put all new bearings in. Just got it running tonight (idled a couple minutes without a clutch on it) and am pleased with how quiet it runs. My first two stroke rebuild. Yay. Machine is still naked as I have to run it a bit more and check again for leaks and what not.

That's how I always did,got the engine in,tied up the loose ends, and fired em up! Couldn't wait on the clutch or any extras!! Not a better feeling than to hear a freshly rebuilt one run. After all the years working on em,this was the best part! Congrats on the new engine!! OPT
