Default Tao tao 150cc atv grinding

I recently purchased a Tao Tao 150cc atv. It hasn't run right since I got it. I finally got it running good for about a day then this started. I was riding today when out of nowhere it started making this loud grinding noise. After playing around with different speeds a little bit it finally stopped. About 5 minutes later it started doing it again and wouldn't stop. I tried just riding it out until it just kept doing it. I came to a small incline where it then just gave out. Any idea what the problem may be?

Also, please be very detailed. I'm new to atvs and don't know much about engines and that.

If it is belt drive, the belt has probably broken. The belt runs from the crankshaft to the "gearbox" in a case. If you don't feel confident to tackle it, get someone who knows about small motorcycle engines to take a look.

Thank you so much! Got the belt replaced and it's running great.

Also it doesn't do this in reverse.

The idea was to take a look at the belt, if it was OK your problem is somewhere else. It is starting to look like the gearbox. Again if you don't feel confident to tackle it, get an "expert" to check it over.
