Thumbs up Starts, but when you run it, it shuts off at a random times.

My Kawasaki Bayou 300 1998, has been acting up since we bought it. Finally we couldn't fix it on our own so we took it to a guy he fixed it. Recently I was riding it and all of a sudden it shuts off half speed down a hill. Long story it has been sitting in my garage since this fall, and I am tired of seeing it collecting dust. It's start up with one click from the electric start or a couple pulls from the pull start. I had it idlesing at least 5 minutes without touching the throttle. But when I put it into gear it will only go a quarter of a mile till it shut off agian. Also when it shut off wait a little while then it will start back up. Full of gas. I have had no ideas. Thanks

Welcome to the forums.

Could be something as simple as the gas cap vent line being pinched. I'd start there.

Don't just clean the carb do a complete rebuild with a proper kit so all adjustments are correct and all new gaskets. Be sure to blow out all orfices and run a fine wire thru them. Just a simple cleaning can cause more problems than it fixes. Check to be sure a wire is not getting pinched and shorted when putting it in gear.

I had the same problem with my '86 Bayou and it was the gas cap vent. I was able to blow it out with compressed air and had no more problems.
