Honda rancher es

2000 honda rancher es with shifting problems. I have replaced the shifting motor, the sensor below shifting motor. Yesterday it ran fine. Slight hesitation when shifting. This morning It is in neutral and will not shift to a gear. It will shift manually in all gears. No grease at all was in the gears. Applied no grease. What do i need to do now?

Well, the shift gearbox should have grease on the gears, but it won't be them seized yet. Does it try to change gear? If you hear the motor clunk, but not change, the problem is in the motor circuit or just possibly the angle sensor circuit. If you don't get any indication it is trying, the most likely thing is the shift button wires, if the wire supplying power to the shift buttons breaks, the ECU doesn't know you have pressed one, so nothing happens. The ECU itself could be failing, but it is more likely to be a wire or plug/socket in the ES circuits, very difficult to find, particularly if intermittent. In difficult cases I remove the shift motor gears and fit a foot pedal.
