1999 TRX250 severely rusted hub removal
#1
Hello. I am trying to remove the rear left hub on my trx250 so that I can remove the axle and replace the bearings. However, the hub seems to be rusted or stuck to the axle very very good. I have tried a good ole sledgehammer with penetrating oil with no luck, not even a budge. I just picked up a hub puller and used that with my torque wrench set to 100 ft pounds (so that I don't break the puller). Instead of pulling the hub off, it ended up bending the 1/4" steel on the hub. Like wtf???? Did honda weld it to the axle and make it look like you can just pull it off? This is ridiculous! Replacing the axle isn't an option because the quad is 21 years old. Any ideas on removing it?

Heat, sometimes the only way you can get a seized splined shaft to let go is to heat the flange with a hub puller in readiness to give a pull once you get it red hot. You may even need to cut the hub lengthways with a cutting disc or flame cutter. Do not be too worried about destroying the axle as it is used on the 2019 model, is $166 and you will almost certainly find the axle worn to hell where the LH wheel bearings and oil seal run. I had to change one on a 5 year old bike, for this reason, recently. Best of luck with the RH bearing and brake drum too, they are often more firmly stuck to the axle than the hub.
