Default 2003 sportsman 700 ignition woes?

I just purchased a 2003 sportsman 700 carbureted quad from a guy and he said it had some stumbling on the top end and thought it needed a carb rebuild. Bike had 2006 miles on it and is generally in pretty good shape. I was really hoping it was the carb intake tube being split but when I got it apart it had a new one on it already. It has a new battery.

It will start fine-ish and appear to idle but if you give too much throttle too quickly it bogs down or sounds like it starts missing. It will eventually start to climb in RPMs but then it will sound like it drops a cylinder. Sea foam and carb cleaner have been used with no change but I haven't actually rebuilt the carb yet. I see that these had major ignition system issues. I was wondering if anyone can tell me:A.) Do my symptoms line up with faulty ignition
B.) Is there a way to identify the old system vs new system? New kit appears to have a brown wire coming out of the stator cover, old kit appears to not. Any other tips?

Any and all help is much appreciated!
