Kawi belt wear gauge
#1
I saw a new Kawi 650 & 360 belt gauge that my dealer's mechanic had in his tool box. It's not shown in the service manual. It's made of thick plexi-glass or Lexan with a belt shaped cut-out in the top, the whole thing is only a couple inches wide and an inch deep. When the belt drops in far enough that the top cogs fall below the top of the gauge, the belt is beyond factory spec. Extremely simple. The mech said I should have one, I agree'd. He thought it should cost 3-4 dollars. Told the parts person to order it, then she told me the price - $36 Can!! After I got up off the floor, I cancelled the order. Especially since I can just borrow the mechanics gauge if I need it. I'm going to try to make a copy of it out of metal or plexi-glass, but it's fairly precise and I don't have any fancy machinery. If I can copy it accurately, I may be able to offer them to others, if anyone's interested. BTW - the 360 and 650 belts DO have a different taper. They're the same width at the bottom but the 360 is about 1mm wider at the top.

Next chance I get, I'll measure it. I've got to pick up a new digital caliper first. The one I use in my gun shop has gone crazy on me! It measures up to 1.015 in. and then jumps backwards by a full tenth.

if the part number is 57001-1519 I have the tool. If you want me to let me know how to properly scan/recreate in a drawing it so you guys can engineer one for yourselves and I shall do it for you.

The part number is 57001-1511 for the 650 belt gauge. DustinMinnesota, I think the number you have is for the 360. The mechanic couldn't believe the price was $36 Can, so he looked it up for me. It was $22 Can, the parts person must have looked up the wrong #. So I ordered one.
