Ok OK, I know its been posted a million times, but I was out last night and tried and tried to see how this "Torque sensing" diff works. I couldn't see how it locked up anything. Many times I was in 3 wheel drive in the sand. Many times I had all 4 going, but there didnt seem to be any consistency. I read a review on the 500 and they said all you might need to do is touch the brake quicky and the front end will lock. It didnt seem to work. Two Questions: Can someone explain how that front end works? Is it just a limited slip? Or is it slightly better?
Also, Can you get a locker for it? If yes, from where?
Thanks,

NWThunting- The only Torque sensing the Cat front diff does is stop pulling the tire that senses torque. The Cat front diff is just a spider gear differential with clutches at each end. Playing with the brakes will not work most of the time. It is likely that it will 3 wheel most of the time and it will only get worse as the clutches wear.
If you want a locker, the only option at this time to put a spool locker in it. Don't expect to see anyone come up with Detroit locker anytime soon.
Going down by the cheapest first these are the options.
1.You can weld the spider gears together.
2. Order a spool for the back and put it in the front.
3. Get Dirty Howie to cut it open and put one of his lockers in.
I would recommend # 2 as you can swap your factory 3wheeling assembly back in if you don't like the hard steering.
OR swap in A King Quad front diff, but thats a whole nother story.

Actually pressing the brake does work. If one wheel is spinning faster than the other than there is less resistance on the spinning wheel, if you apply the brake then it takes less force to slow the spinning wheel than the one not spinning there for sending the power to the wheel with traction. It isn't 4 wheeldrive but it is better than 3.
