Default who has had this problem?

I have had my 400i auto 2003 for 2 weeks and been on the trails twice and had problems twice!! The first time was a fuel valve problem that had trash in it and the second was my temp light came on while riding and the fan was not comming on. Any ideas why the light came on? There was no mud or trash blocking the fan or fins, it was clean. I did go threw a creek with that was deep and the fan ran when I went threw it, I heard the fan blades hitting the water. I checked the fuses and the fan turns, It's not locked up! Any ideas? This is a brand new machine and I would hope that the AC could take alot more trail abuse than what I did today! I am a very mild rider and don't trach my stuff and I hope this is not a problem bike..!!!

Can I get some info on the toggle switch fan installation? The AC is in the shop and I hope to get it back before the weekend!

Thanks!!!

ohhh bmuddy have more confidence than that. Its could be one of these . either the thermostat is sticking, coolant is low, pump is not working properly,or your fan is malfunctioning. Run the bike at your house and let it heat up to normal operating temp. once it comes on run it around the block a few times and let it really heat up. If you see the light come on shut it off. Let it cool and go home.

What you rule out.
Its not the fan.
I believe the fan comes on around 120 degrees not real sure,i forgot.
but now you are limited to the pump and thermostat.

what you need to check. coolant level. make sure cap is on properly and is the right cap for your bike.. Do you have a winch. If you do and you did not take it off when cleaning the radiator then you still have trash in there. I have to take off my front screen,my winch and the radiator screen to really clean mine. but as you can see in my pics. i dont do your occasional mudd riding. it A$$ deep mud. Good luck

In a nut shell..its under waranty.? take it back, have it fixed

Try removing the front guard and inspecting the radiator. It's really hard to wash out all the debris from the cooling system without removing the front end. I do this about two times a year on my 500i. If you ride often and in water and mud, you may need to do as I do.

I thought the 400 was Oil Cooled.

Yep Happen to me TWICE!!!Took it to the dealer for warranty repairs both timesAny way to make a long story short got tired of leaving it there for the temp sensor. So I took Two wires and tapped into the wires coming into the sensor, ran them up to the plastic where the key is,and put a rocker switch to turn it on and off in there. Get on the right side of the atv and look down at the oil filter, on front of the motor there is two things coming out of the front of the motor the one closest to Ya with the wires is the sensor.

It took me about 20 min to fix it nd I don't have to wait for the dealer to get to it anymore

I don't know if the sensor even works anymore I just keep the switch on till i get to deep mud and water than i turn it off.

And Yes the 400 is oil cooled It has an oil cooler fan

The 400I 2003 it is air and oil cooled. My 400i has a sensor that cycles the fan on and off.
I will be doing the toggle switch when I get the atv back from the shop! Just alittle frustrated to have a bike with 28 miles on it and can't ride it!

I hope to get it back by Monday or Tuesday. I will keep you posted on what the problem is and what they did to fix it! Thanks for all the responses and your time!! This is a great site!
