Default Loading sideways on a utility trailer????????

I am wondering and have never seen it mentioned anywhere about loading four wheelers sidways on a utility trailer. We have two AC 400ai's and we bought this sixteen foot utility trailer to haul them on among other things. So heres the deal. I am going on a big ride with a bunch of guys from work down at the Three Rivers Wildlife Management Area in SE OKLA. I can haul my two four wheelers very comfortably just by pulling them unto the trailer. However I know I can get three on there sideways and maybe four. The sides of the trailer are about 18" off of the deck and when I put my ramp up to the side the floorboards hit the top of the trailer side rails before my front tires hit the deck to the trailer. Ok I could gun it on in probably but then I am up against something 18" tall to get back out. Anybody have any ideas for a step down into the trailer and i guess the same would be step out. I dont think I can man handle the Cats by hand to turn them sideways there is not going to be much clearance once in sideways and they also weight 600#+. I could sure use some help here, and I am not beyong fabricating something from either wood or metal. Another concern is loading over the trailer wheel wells, any ideas about this I dont think they can handle 600# going up and over them. Well thanks for the suggestions cause I need them.

You could try those little casters that you can put your wheels on and roll them on the trailer and maneuver them around as needed. You can make your own casters or just buy the ones used to roll around in the garage from any automotive place. One time we did haul 2 atv's on a small trailer by just making ramps down into the trailer from over the edge, once the atv was inside the trailer on the ramps we just strapped it down and rode. Pretty easy to get out of the trailer in reverse 4 wheel drive just make sure you stay on the ramps. The 2nd idea is a little tricky but it works in a tight squeeze.

Good luck.

OK HERE'S HOW IT WORKS. I'VE DONE IT, YOU CAN HAUL FOUR. JUST NOT FOUR CATS ON A 16' TRAILER.

1ST YOU PICK A SPOT ON THE TRAILER WHERE YOU CAN GET ON AND OFF . EITHER THE FRONT OR REAR.
2ND YOU SECURE YOUR RAMPS. NOTE THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. REMEMBER I HAVE DONE THIS.
3RD WET THE TRAILER WITH WATER. TRUST ME WITH THIS.
4TH DRIVE YOUR 1ST BIKE ON THE TRAILER AND SLIDE IT TO THE OTHER END. THIS IS WHERE THE WET
WOOD COMES IN HANDY.
5TH STRAPPEM DOWN AND RIDE. UNLOAD IN THE REVERSE ORDER LAST ON FIRST OFF.

THE WATER IS OPTIONAL, BUT IT DOES HELP.
P.S. TAKE A SPARE TRAILER TIRE

GOOD LUCK!!!!

I ripped a sheet of 3/4 plywood in half and bolted strap steel to it, then I drilled holes in the top rail and bolted it to it. Just put your ramps up on the side rail and drive on, lots easier than muscling them around.

I drive mine over the side then back out when I unload them. Make sure the ramps are secure or they will come out when the floorboards hit going in. I have had 5 ( All big Polaris's and Kawasaki prairie twin ) on my 16' utility trailer with a 10" extension on the back. When you go to take them off have someone help the front up as you gas it just don't run over them. Usually when the floorboards hit going in I shut down get off and push it the rest of the way in.

Well there is no easy answer is guess. 1wook I like that idea and have thought about that. So you have a two foot wide ramp of plywood going down into the trailer from one of the side rails? Got any pics of this in action?

There's local lawn service here that has a 16' utility trailer (one
of those angle iron trailers) he has modified the trailer so it has
a 2nd ramp on the passenger side at the front where he loads
a zero radius mower on

Default Loading sideways on a utility trailer????????

I just started selling ATV trailers that have both the rear and side ramps.
12 or 14 foot, with or without a dove tail. 3500GVW. No effort loading.
They start at $1250 but I can make a deal on one if I order it.
Just a FYI.
