Default 2000 AC 500

I found a 2000 AC 500 4x4 auto, 500 miles, 1 owner for $4500 OBO. Would this be a good price for this ATV? Blue book says $4065 and he said he sold his green one for $4000. Seems like a fair price would that be?

Seems high to me. Thats about $1000 under what you could buy a new one for, and alot of improvements have been made since 2000.

Here's the data on that bike

2000

4 Wheel ATV
Model: 4X4-500 AUTOMATIC
Piston Displacement (CCs): 493
Stroke: 4
Cylinders: 1
Speeds: A
Dry Weight: 648
Low Retail: $2,910
Average Retail: $3,830

See how much you lose on these things!! This probably cost at least 6K new, a dealer would offer him 2500 tops, dealers (stealers) never offer even low retail ( at least I've never seen it ... they say they will when you buy new, but in the end they don't).

I usually offer a few hundred over low retail for a used bike. Remember, people selling these things privately have already been insulted by the dealer on trade in price most times. I'd politely offer 3100, and when he says no, politely give him your number and ask him to keep you in mind if he changes his mind. You'd be surprised how often that call back will happen. Let's face it, if dealers were giving decent money for these things used, would we see 8000 ads on atvtrader.com? Not only that, your local dealers would have dozens of them that were traded in. Personally I've found it's hard to find good machines used at a dealer. Your results may vary. With the financing these companies offer, most people are 'upside down for at least 3 years', maybe more.

Good luck in your quest, and remember, the more reasonable offers you make to people, the more chance you have of getting that callback. I'd say most of the prople bought the 500's back in 00 when they were the king of the hill. These people aren't getting out of ATVing for the most part, they're moving up!!

Be patient ... the deal will come ... it took me 3 months to find mine.

Thanks Revhigh, what do you think about a 2003 400 2x4 auto, used only a few hours for 3600? A guy bought this kind for his 16 year old son and hello they want to go fast not just toodle around the woods or desert. He brought it back to the dealer within a few months and got him the DVX. Dealer is selling it on consignment. Told him to throw in a pair of tires cause apprently the kid was riding it on the road to get to the desert to ride. He said he would and I would have to pay for mounting. So it would be 3640, and still a year and a half left on its warrenty.

Here's the data

ARCTIC CAT
2003

4 Wheel ATV
Model: 2X4-400 AUTO
Piston Displacement (CCs): 376
Stroke: 4
Cylinders: 1
Speeds: A
Dry Weight: 604
Low Retail: $2,770
Average Retail: $3,640

He's trying to sell at high retail (like everyone who's upside down) .... i'd offer about 3000 - 3100. They'll probably say no, the kid probably owes 3600 on it.

It depends how hot to trot you are about buying NOW... It's an OK deal, but I'd like to do better.

It was enough for me to get him to throw in to new back tires and then I would have to pay for mounting. I don't know about that one cause I am thinking it was probably ridden pretty hard in the short time he had it. With the tires to be at 50% in just about 3 months, that's not normal wear is it? But like I said he's been riding on asphalt, HELLO!!!
