I own a Arctic Cat 400 4x4. The other day a got on it and a squeaking noise was coming from the rear diff. or driveshaft area. The noise stopped after about two minutes of moving. I payed it no mind. I loaded up and started to go trail riding. When I unloaded the squeaking started but only for a few seconds. About two miles down the trail a loud popping noise started and the rear diff and driveshaft when jumping every few feet. I pulled the bike back to the truck to prevent any further damages. I get home unload the bike and it is just squeaking again no popping. Has anyone know what the problem is or where to began to look. Any help is appreciated.

I to have a 400 4x4, but have not had any rear end problems. I was talking to a dealer the other day about the rear ends of these machines. He told me that the gears that AC use are indestructable. He has seen some bearing failure in the rear axle though. He felt that in the case of the repairs he did it was to to constant water usage. He did tell me a great story about a guy who bent his rear axle and eventually ruined the bearings and a few parts in the rear differential though. Total for the parts was $1100.00 Canadian. The bike was just under two years old and AC went good for the parts, the customer was only charged labor. If this is any indication of Arctic Cats customer relations they can expect to continue to grow by leaps and bounds. Anyway I have bent your ear long enough. Good luck on getting that rear end fixed, make sure to let us know what was wrong.

Cheers Jim

It your rear end bearings. Trust me I had the samething go wrong on my 500, which has the same rear end as your 400.

The parts for every thing that was changed on mine totalled to $260 bucks, with labor it was over $550 bucks. I have the warranty tho.

I had the rear drive shaft go bad in my 454, I had to replace the bearing in the shaft. but that made more of a grinding noise .. Bill
