04 400i manuel clutch
#2
ArcticBrat,
On the right hand side of the engine (if you are setting on the machine) between the oil fill plug and the front of the engine is a small oval plate with two screws attaching it. That is an access plate to the clutch adjustment screws. Manual states as follows:
1. Using an impact driver, remove the screws securing the cover and remove the cover. Account for the O-ring.
2. Loosen the jam nuts securing adjustment screw #1 (forward) and adjustment screw #2 (rearward).
3. Rotate adjustment screw #1 counterclockwise until it stops.
4. Rotate adjustment screw #2 alternately clockwise and counterclockwise to ensure free movement without binding; then lock the jam nut securing adjustment screw #2.
5. Rotate adjustment screw #1 clockwise 1/8 of a turn; then lock the jam nut on adjustment screw #1.
At this point the clutch should be adjusted correctly. Test to ensure adjustment.
6. Install the cover making sure the O-ring is properly positioned; then secure with the screws. (I put lock tite on mine when installing)
If this does not do the trick then your clutch parts may be worn and need to be replaced. I had a similar thing occuring after I put on my 26inch tires. After this adjustment I have had no further problems. It took me about 30 minutes. Hardest part was getting those screws out. I have about 2800 miles on my machine and about 800 of those since the adjustment. How many miles are on yours?
Also if you can't follow what is above PM me with an email address and I will send you the page from the manual with the steps and photos on it.
Hope this helps,
SJ
