Default Speedo problems for 06 Cats?

I just read the other thread about this and it makes me a little scared about buying an 06 versus an 05. How many people are having problems and how many people are not?

I do not understand why they went to the analog gauge for '06... i have the '05 and no troubles.

Analog or digital, they are both run by a pulse generator and it runs off tranny output shaft speed. Same generator this year as last, however there has been a axle gear ratio change for this year and without a change in the pulse counter in the speedo head the speedo will be off.

Do you know this, or have your surmised it for some reason?
Clearly a digital gauge requires no moving parts, and an analog gauge does (at least at some point)... - I would really wonder if the 'sending units' off of the shaft are 100% the same.

Anway, that point is apples and oranges anyway, as to whether the system is working as well in '06 models - it could be a problem in the '06 'dash' or something.

I don't know how much electronics you know, but the pulse trigger wheel and the sensor are the same for 05 and 06, at least the part numbers are the same and that makes me smarter than you because I looked them up before I posted. The speedo head have a different gauge is all and the analog speedo is just a different type gauge reading those pulses generated by the trigger wheel and the sensor. The anolog speedo is not driven by a speedo cable and so you are wrong as they are not apples and oranges, but apples and apples. As to whether the problem is in the speedo head, well maybe, but like I said the gear ratio change is going to make the engine rev higher for a given mph and without that change there doesn't seem to be a problem. So it is really the ring and pinion gears that are the problem.

ok... lets call the nobel prize committee and nominate you,,, cause, yes, you are just so much smarter for looking up some part numbers.

I have an 06 500 and I have to say, I like the new speedo very much! I've run it quite a bit with my GPS and I've found it to be dead on as far as the speed and odometer is concerned, contrary to what others have said. It seems that people "think" full digital readout is better for some reason, probably because it has more "wow" factor. This new one is great, it looks wicked cool at night and I'd reccommend it!

Oh and Bear is absolutely right. The 06 speedo is NOT an analog speedo, it's a digital speedo with an analog readout with the analog readout generated by the digtial signal from the CDI. If you take the speedo pod off and look at the speedo from the back, it's only about an 3/4 of an inch deep with wires only. NO speedo cable at all.
