Default header wrap

Anybody tried header wrap on their Cats. Just thought it might help with the head on my 400i. Might even improve performance some. Any thoughts, ideas, or problems with it?

Thinking about getting the Moose Thermal Wrap or one of the Highlifter Thermal Kits.

i dont know about quads and header wrap but on cars it cuts down on engine temps and will help each cylinder run at the same temp i say it would be a good idea on a atv

I don't know of anyone whos done it on a Cat, but several have done their sporties (Yamas and Kawas) because of the performance increase (none proven with numbers but?) and several have done it for the "burn the hole in the pants" syndrome. All are happy with it and it is not very expensive. I only know of one person that wrapped under the heat shield and he is the one the happiest with the mod.

Yea a buddy did it on his yfz, not sure if my brother did on his yet. Those get pretty hot and it has really helped a lot. Don't know if he has actually seen any performance gains from it. I can't see it making a huge difference on a 439cc motor. I'm going to do it to my z even though it doesn't get AS hot. I'm hoping I can find some in blue.

IMHO, the main purpose of header wrap is to keep the heat inside of the exhaust system. The warmer that the exhaust gasses are kept, then the resistence is of the gasses is less. If the gasses flow out of the exhaust quicker (less resistence), then more air/fuel mixture can be delivered into the cylender, producing more power. This may not decrease engine temps directly, but will decrease temps under the hood of a car, possibly causing engine temps to be lower.

There can be different reasons for using header wrap, which include rider comfort or engine performance.

If you do it, I would suggest going UNDER the heat shield.

I was pretty glad I didn't have them wrapped this morning. My hands were freezing when I got down from my treestand, but didn't take them long to warm up holding them over the header. Great hand warmer for duck and deer hunters.

LOL That's what they make handwarmers for. Know what you mean though, I do the same thing on my Harley when it's cold and I'm riding. I don't have a winshield or anything.
