Default Hopping Cat 04 500

Yo,

I got my ATV back from the shop (again). This time it was in Glenwood Equipment in Minnesota. Very impressed with the effort they put in trying to diagnose and solve my hopping cat problem. The tech checked every connection in the driveline, adjusted the clutch, tried different tires, added weight in the form of a co-worker, increased the tire pressure, reduced the rear spring tension, and called a Polaris dealership friend to compare notes.

Ultimately though, the problem is still there. The conversation with the Polaris guy revealed that they also get complaints every so often from new owners to the IRS. The problem went away with more aggressive tires and when weight was added to the rear "Bill". I asked how much it would cost to have Bill hop on the back whenever I was out in the snow..........The tech laughed and said they couldn't afford to have him away from the shop all winter.

So, I need to get some weight on the back end which is surprising because I'm 260 pounds. I also need to add more traction. The cheap way out would be to put some chains on or take the plunge and get some mud/snow tires. Does anyone have experience with tire chains. I was looking on the internet and came across a couple of different designs, but I'm apprehensive to go that route in the event the chains loosen and start taking out the plastic or worse steering or braking components. I also came across the Nebraska Tire Center site and they sell a tire brand "Mud Gear" that looks like a decent tread similar to ITP589's. Anybody heard any reports on that tire?

Thanks in advance,
Farmboy

Farm,

I'm not really partial to the 589's or anytire that looks like them.. INO-Tey are to heavy... I have 27/12/12 zillas and 29.5-outlaws,, And i feel the zillas are heavier then the laws..... If you want an all around good tire get yourself a set of 27/12/12 mudbugs... Great tire.. I have the 26's on my wifes honda...
