Aside from price, are there any big changes between the 2002 and 2004 500's?

 

The 2004 would have a different suspension (fully IRS), different body style, stronger axles, digital insturmantal pod, shift button 4x4 (as opposed to a lever) more ground clearance, bigger racks, and the 2004 would have about 23% more horsepower. Not all, the 400's still had the analog gauge. It was the 500 that really got the boost in power. That said, my dad has a 2000 500 auto and it has plenty of power for almost everything, those things are like tanks.

 

The 02 500 could have IRS couldnt it?And what do you mean by they had bigger racks?Unless it had mrp racks they were the same between 02 and 04 right?

 

Correct. IRS was an option on the 2002. And the MRP racks on the 500 were standard in 2004 (I think!) [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

 

Nope,Option in 2004,I think it was $200 extra.

 

Ouch, that is a lot. You are probably right, but I had a 2004 400 and it had the regular racks and I thought the guy selling it told me that MRP was an option on the 400, but standard on 500 & 650. We are all wrong sometimes.LOL.The 500 could have mrps for $200 more same for the 04 650.It had 3 choices:Standard w/ reg.racks,Le W/ standard racks with brush guards,and bumpers,and then
there was a regular 650 w/ mrp racks-$200 more.They didnt become standard till 05.And they had mrps
on 03 models too.$200 option though. My 03 has 05 400 mrp racks though,cause I got them for $50 off of a wrecked 400 4x4.And 05 mrps have no reflectors so my AC has no reflectors.

 

Really...

the big changes for the 500 came in 2005. That's when they got the newer cat body style that seems to protect you more from the mud.. plastic over rack foot rests, larger rear mounted gas tank, elec choke (jury's out on that one), diff lock, auto 4x4 on the fly, digital pod, 4 discs, no grease zerks, etc

Really, i'd be looking for that style, it'd probably hold it's value better..

Have a hard time believing people don't like it!
