Long Term Storage
#1
I'm leaving my 07 400 up at our northern place all winter, so just wondering what kind of things should be done after my last ride here in a few weeks. I assuem disconnecting battery, and storing it indoors, now for the fuel tank I've heard both ways - store empty, and store full - any suggestions on that? I'm thinking too maybe blocking off any kind of entry points from mice / squirrels, etc.
It will be stored inside our pole barn or our regular barn - neither has heat, and the pole barn is gravel floor, and barn is wood floor. Probably from the first week of Oct till at least March or May - stored in the Upper Michigan so it will be nice and cold too - lol.

when i put away the lawn mowers, weed eaters, snow blower,ect... i always run them with the fuel i have left from the weed eaters for about 10 minutes.(let them run empty) i do this because i have always been told to leave the carbs/tanks empty for long term storage. well i run the mixture gas/oil because, One: it wont hurt the engine for the short period of time they are running. (if anything the plug will foul). Two, the oil will keep the seals oiled so they dont dry rot. Three, every summer i go fill them up with new gas and some carb cleaner and every year they start with in 5 pulls and i have never had to service them.(15 years of using this method). keeping the mice away somehow is a good idea, you wont have torn wires or a nest in the airbox when its time to ride again. other than that the other things you said are all good ideas to do.
