Default 2000 400 4x4

HI everyone, new to forum and this is my first atv. The problem i am having is that after i ride it for 10 min. or so it starts to run bad and stalls out and will not restart until i let it sit for 10 min. or so. I dont know if it has something to do with the choke or not, but it will only start and run with the choke lever in the up posistion. When the lever is up is the choke on or off?
Thanks in advance.

Check filter, clean, replace if necessary. Also check the carb vent hose (the top hose coming out of carb) and make sure the hose isnt kinked.

clean your carb well, i think the choke is on when its UP. but if it starts/runs fine at first, but then after rideing for 10mins it wants to shut off that could be serious. i have an 99AC 400, same basic symptoms. after i ride it for 20mins iv got no more throttel and it will slowly putter out til dead. i know mine has a burnt exhaust valve, it ran a little lean for too long of a time.

try cleaning the carb, i really hope that helps

Up is the off position. Down pulls the cable and moves the choke valve. Sometimes an electrical part will break down after it is run awhile. When it stalls are you still getting a spark? Could be the coil. Thanks.

Have You tried a new spark plug. It's easy to overlook the simple things sometimes. Could the carb be running to rich? Usually You have to choke a cold engine to start but sounds like You never have to on yours.

I pulled the plug this morning and it looked wet and had a glossy black color. I cleaned it and let it ran until it started to die, pulled the plug again and it was the same. Also found a line comming fron the right side of the carb. to the left that is not connected to anything, it has a small squeezable clamp on it. Where should this go? its hanging right below the fuel intake line at the carb.

Thats your carb vent hose.

Was it pinched, or kinked?
