Drowned 650 H1
#1
I flipped my 2006 650 H1 SE cat over in a river the other day. It was floating upside down for about a minute until I got back to shallow water. I flipped it over and winched it back on to dry land. Needless to say it was dead and I got water into everything. I drained everything (airbox, carb, belt drive, cylinder, differentals) and blew it out with an airhose. I drained the engine oil which had a lot of water in it and blew out the engine with compressed air and refilled it, I know I will have to do this several times. Anyway, it fired right up and ran well for about ten minutes. I turned it off, drained the oil, refilled it, fired right back up again then died about two minutes later. It will not start anymore. It's got spark, fuel pump works, gas is getting to carb. I poured a little gas into cylinder and it ran for five seconds. Clogged jets maybe? Help!

I got it going. Thanks for the help..... Yes that was sarcastic but maybe what I did will help someone else. Anyway, I primed the carb, I didn't know it until I pulled it apart but there is a primer lever on the H1. I kept pumping it and it would hold an idle for a few seconds than die. So..... As soon as it started I primed the living crap out of it and opened the throttle at the same time. Next thing I know that bitch started to rev up. Whatever crap was in the carb got blown out and it runs great now. Now I can go swimming again

lol good you got is going again. did u take the head apart and everything?? must have been a lot of work?? was it hard to do that or was it pretty easy?? i havent had the pain on doing any engine work on mine yet thx

Didn't take the head apart, just pulled spark plug and kept turning engine over till there was no sign of anymore water. Just to be safe I left plug out overnight with a little kerosene in the cylinder then turned it over again the next day with my hand right above the cylinder to make sure my hand had no moisture on it. Disconnected all wire connections and blew them out with compressed air. And of course did everything else noted in my other two posts. I changed the oil about 8 times with cheap oil and seafoam, running the motor about 10 minutes between each oil change. I put a new oil filter and put synthetic back in it then gave it a good ride last weekend, I checked the oil after, it's slightly milky so I will do it again. Other than my instrument panel taking a crap on me it's pretty much back to the way it was. It sucks because that was a brand new instrument panel because I flipped it a month earlier and broke it, but that's a different story. Old lady wants me to find a new hobby. I told her no so she raised my life insurance policy and had me do a will. You think she's trying to tell me something?

sorry you didn't get an answer fast enough for you
water in a running bike CAN result in blowing the piston/head/rings/valves/gaskets
turning a bike over WILL result in all the CRAP in your tank getting stirred up and into your carbs.. PUT IN AN INLINE FUEL FILTER -- that's exasperation, not sarcasm.
So, you got lucky, and it wasn't a spendy fix.. good for you

I live in Connecticut. Next to my house it's all wetlands so it's muddy as hell. On the other side of the wetlands there's a river where I take the quad to clean it to basically clean off the mud from the wetlands. I went into the river in a spot I don't usually enter in and all the sudden it just dropped to deep water and over I went. Me and the quad (upside down) went about 100 feet down the river until we hit shallow water again. It was like 20 degrees out, I froze my *** off! It definetly cleaned quad pretty good though. I can laugh about it now but I can tell you I was not laughing then. My cell was wet so I had to walk back about 2 miles to get my nieghbor to tow me home with his quad. My clothes actually turned to ice as I was walking back. I know, DON'T RIDE ALONE!

I don't know why they don't have fuel filters from factory. No sarcasm taken, I will put a inline filter in. I did not start the quad till I got it home and dryed everything out. It was a pretty cheap fix except for the digital speedo. It illuminates but that's it, nothing else works on it. You would think it would work fine after floating upside down in a freezing river for a 100 feet.
