Can't get DVX 400 to go in reverse
I just bought a 04 dvx 400 and I love it however I can't it to go in reverse. The owner was able to put it in reverse when he pulled it off trailer so I know that it did work. Maybe its just user error since the atvs that I have owned didn't have reverse. Anyways, I put the bike in neutral, while clutch is still held I turn the **** clockwise about half an inch and click down on shift but the red light never comes on and it doesn't go in reverse. Wasn't sure how far the **** should turn before it breaks. Owner told me that he never had to put much pressure on the **** to turn it. Thanks in advance to those who reply.

How can I shift down if I'm already in first? Thought you had to be in neutral to put the dvx 400 in reverse.</end quote></div>
No he is correct, you shift into R from 1st gear, NOT neutral. You only shift to R from N if the N is the last gear in the stack. That is only the case on utility ATVs.
Sport ATVs are just like motorcycles, so 1st gear in the last in the stack because it is always "1 down 4 up" ...... So they had to put the R gear somewhere and below 1st is the best place.
