carb ideas
#1
I have had several ATVs in the past.
I have recently purchased an Artic Cat 366 ATV.
After I get the bike running it is a very nice machine. Very happy.
However the name Arctic Cat should not apply. I live in Canada.
It is very hard if not impossible to start when it is cold.
It is still under warranty. It has less that 20 miles on the machine. It has synthetic oil in it. The battery is new and it turns over perfectly. I can pump the primer (hard to get at) and it will fire as I prime but will not stay running.
I have taken it to an Artic Cat dealer who checked it out. They said it was all to factory spec but as there was nothing wrong there was no warranty coverage and gave me a bill for the labour.
Has anyone had this kind of a problem before on this model? Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Garry

Come on guys - I need a little help here.
I am a serion citizen. I use the bike for hunting and fishing and our lakes are frozen now.
I do a lot of hunting and need a bike.
Last fall I was drawn for an archery elk tag in the Porkupine mountains. On a trip to town when I was hunting, there were 4 of this model on special in the local paper and I traded my Kawasaki in for one. Worked great till it got cold.
The dealer in my home town said there was nothing wrong.
The dealer where I bought it said that if I took it all the way back there there he thinks it needs a larger pilot jet. He said he had another purchser with the same complaint.
I have spoken to other repair shops. One wants to do a carb overhaul. Another thinks the electric choke plunger needs replacing.
As these have Suzuki motors I checked out their forum but nothing.
I was an office worker and have little motor knowledge. I would like some ideas from other than these repair shops before I spend more money on the bike.
It sometimes starts. It sometime sputters a bit but if you keep turning it over it starts. Sometimes nothing. It has no pull start.
I only know that I do not want to head out unsure of if I might have to walk back.
Sorry for the long thread but I just need some ideas of where to start.

Got one one these for the girlfriend last winter and took delivery of it this spring. The deal was to sweet to pass by. The bike worked well enough but wouldn't start in the woods one day. We pulled it home and took it into the dealer. The bike wouldn't start when we unloaded from the truck but started right up as soon as the garage door closed, hence a service charge because there was no problem.
I am getting the recoil starter kit for it because once the battery is run down you're out of luck.
Let us know how you make out.

on the bottom of the carb is a brass plug ,take an 1/8 inch drill bit and drill thru it, then thread a sheet metal screw into it , get ahold of it with vice grips and pull it out, under it you will find the air- fuel screw for carb, see what its set at, should be 2to 2.5 turns out, I have found them completely shut which causes the cold starting problems, try this and let us know
