I was going to buy hte 400ac becuse it was 1050 cheaper than the 500 but does anyone think I would be better off waiting for the 2002 models to come out? are there going to be major changes or updates on the 2002 models? also is there any difference between the 500 and 400 diferental other than the ability to shift out of 4wd? any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Can't say much re the 2002 models, but I have a 2000 model 400 4x4. The only differance outside of the displacement is the selectable 2 or 4 wheel drive feature.

A few other small things are different also. The 400 has a smaller front bumper/brush guard and smaller racks. It also has smaller front tires and I believe a different carb.

We have an 01 400 and 500 manual. The 500 is more powerful, has abigger front bumper and racks. It also has bigger front tires which you can feel the difference compared to the 400 and it's 8" wide fronts. Both of ours work and play pretty hard. If you don't think you'll need the power the 400 will do fine. I love them both. The selectable shift lever hasn't been a big deal for us. You don't notice the 4wd on the 400 at all with the 8" front tires.
